Stupid Feet...

Don't get me wrong... I love having feet! I love that I can walk, and get places.
I do not love that almost a year after my bunion surgery, I am still dealing with getting my feet working right and feeling good again.
But hopefully we are to that storm cloud's silver lining. On the 16th of September we finally took out that pesky nerve that has been causing most of my problems. The problem is referred to as a Morton's Neuroma.  As you may know, this stuff doesn't gross me out, but if you don't like that stuff, stop now!

(If you want to know more... Basically, a Morton's Neuroma is a painful condition created by a a swollen or thickened nerve in the ball of your foot. This buildup is a reaction to the irritation resulting from nearby bones and ligaments rubbing against the nerves, and is frequently found between the third and fourth toes. It brings on pain, a burning sensation, tingling, or numbness between the toes and in the ball of the foot.)

We did the surgery in the Foot Doctor's office, and again, I watched as he worked on my foot.  It was harder to see what was going on this time, because it was on the bottom of my foot.  I wished I had a mirror!  Anyway, when the Dr got to that nerve, he said yep, it's pretty big.  See that long thin part at the bottom?  That is what all of the nerve is supposed to look like!  To the right you can see one branch that went to one of my toes, and on the left, you can almost see the other branch from the other toe.  That thick part at the top was what was causing me all that pain. Imagine stuffing that between your toe joints!  I got to feel it, and the bottom is all smooth, but the top is all lumpy and feels more fibrous.  It was kind of cool.

Needless to say, despite the discomfort of having twelve stitches in the bottom of my foot, my foot feels pretty great already, compared to what I was feeling before.

Give me a few more weeks, and I will get you a picture of me running and jumping for joy!
