Summer "Baking" Week

The second week in July found us talking about ˝Baking".
This week turned out great - cause who doesn't love to eat?

Monday found us baking - Quin & Sophie helped make snicker-doodle cookies and Zach helped make banana bread. (Bonus: the boys passed off some scout stuff!)

Tuesday we visited Firehouse Pizza for a tour. It didn't turn out to be much of a tour though...we walked a couple of steps into the back and they said here is the big walk in fridge and freezer...hmmm.

But it turned out OK in the end, because then we watched the pizza guy toss dough into the air,

... and we got to make our own little pizza and watch it cook in their giant open oven. And of course the best part - eating it!

Wednesday we stepped over to the Bluebird Candy Factory and took a tour.  This tour was way fun and cool.  They said that usually there is a lot more to see with things cooking in the kitchen, but it has been so hot lately, they have not had many orders.  It was very interesting anyway.

We spent the most time watching the ladies who hand-dip the chocolate.  They have a cold table they use to make the chocolate just the right temperature, then they roll the filling part in their chocolate covered hands until it is all covered in layers of yummy chocolate!  They even gave us a sample heart of their dark chocolate.  We also got to pick another chocolate to try when the tour was over. Is your mouth watering yet?

On Friday we finished out our "Baking" week with the boys each making something for us to enjoy (Yay, more scout stuff passed off!) Quin made us some pudding to eat with our dinner, and Zach made us a Banana Cream Pie for dessert (also from pudding!)  They were so yummy!  Thanks boys!
