Of course, you must say it like Muzzy (Carol Channing) on Thoroughly Modern Millie!
July is the month of Raspberries around here! Our Raspberry patch has done excellent for the last few years. Last year we started keeping track of approximately how many raspberries we harvest at each picking, so we can compare our total harvest each year. We estimated last year's harvest to be about 99 pints of Raspberries! This year we have already passed that, and there is still maybe a week of picking to go.
Who picks all those raspberries? Mostly me (the Mom), but the kids help with a cup here or there, and when I don't have time, or am too burned out, our neighbors or family come and pick half the patch and take it home with them. Our biggest picking so far this year is 26 pints in one day - and it took me 3 1/2 hours! Grand total this year... stay tuned!
What do we do with all those raspberries? We freeze some, we make freezer jam with some, we eat a lot of them, and we give a bunch away too! On Saturday, just for kicks, I set up a table in the neighbor's driveway by the stop sign, and set up an umbrella and some chairs. We made some raspberry signs, and I set the boys loose with 12 pints of raspberries to sell. We only charged about half what roadside stands are charging, and within 2 1/2 hours, they had sold the lot! Good way for them to earn a little money.
Our favorite ways to eat them:
with ice cream
with pancakes
with cream
in jam
in pie
in jello salads
right out of the patch, by the handful!
