Tuesday…Ahhh…The Redwoods…These Sequoias are so beautiful
and majestic! Our family feels right at home and can relax here. There is so much to discover and enjoy.
At Camp Liahona we stayed in a cabin that is used as the
medical spot for the girl’s camp. We
also go to enjoy some of the adventures they have there. The climbing wall was a favorite (even Grandpa tried it!), and
everyone always loves boats.
Wednesday we headed a little further up the coast and
visited the Lighthouse at Point Arena.
It was beautiful. Heather
especially loves lighthouses. There was
a colony of harbor seals on the rocks by the lighthouse, and we were also lucky
enough to see a gray whale spouting while we were in the lighthouse.
Back down the windy coastal road to try and get to Shell
Beach at low tide to check out the tide pools.
It was very cool to see crabs, limpets, mussels, clams, anemones, sea stars (Ochre) ,
and we even found a tiny octopus! Some
of us even enjoyed a dinner of fish and chips!
Thursday was full of laundry and scouting out fun spots in
Santa Rosa. In addition to a morning at the
park, we visited the Charles Schultz Museum.
Another first for the kids... we had to try out Snoopy’s Ice Rink.
Friday was time to say goodbye. Back over the Sierra Nevada’s and over to
take a peek at Lake Tahoe. A dip in the
pool rounded out our stay at the hotel in Reno.
Saturday was a long day of driving. No more vacation to look forward to, plus
tired kids, made for a challenging drive home… but all in all we did well.
(Thank goodness for a portable DVD player!)
What fun we had spending this week together!
