Fall Recess

This weekend the kids were off school. So on Thursday we focused on completing the kids projects for the reflections contest. Then the boys were invited by their friend Ben to the fall activities at the American West Heritage Center. They had a great time and spent all their $5 at the gift shop on candy and a stone carved animal.

Friday Daddy took off work half the day and we headed to Salt Lake. First we visited with Jan and Zane Asay (John's grandpa). We had a lovely visit with them and Jan's daughter's family who is living with them. The kids all had a grand time checking out Grandpa Zane's motorized chair! Aunt Melissa even came over to visit too.

Our next adventure was to the Living Planet Aquarium on 106 South and 700 East. We raced from exhibit to exhibit so as not to miss any of them with only a meager hour before closing time. No worries...we saw everything and enjoyed it all. I think the favorite for the kids was the ray tank. Quin had no fear in trying to touch the rays...He even got wet all the way up to his armpit trying to touch the ones that glide on the bottom in the sand. Zach was very reluctant at first but we warmed him up touching the starfish...and later he got brave enough to follow the bat ray and touch it on his own. Sophie was coached by Daddy on touching the creatures..but would only do it while Daddy was helping her. Klara just wanted to splash the water and so Mom moved on quickly with her.

Mom's favorite exhibit was the penguins. It was neat to watch how they dove and swam and popped themselves back out of the water.

The aquarium was even decorated for Halloween!

For dinner we met up with Aunt Melissa and Uncle Hyrum and ended up at Applebees. Had a yummy dinner and had fun chatting with the Steeds. After dinner the kids begged for dessert and then decided to buy their own. While enjoying their sundaes and shakes. "Zach summed up his view of the day. He said "This is the best day ever!"

To round out the fun weekend, on Saturday afternoon we all went to the Willows in Providence and played a game of mini golf in the spooked out course. Had lots of fun there...even if we are a bunch of hackers on the green.

  1. Looks like a great weekend~! My kids love the aquarium, too. Maybe we'll have to go again before it closes in November!
